TO REST IS NOT TO CONQUER

Gen. James Green

The Prison Writings--2023

There is a wise proverb that says: "Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways and be wise, which, having no captain, overseer or ruler, provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, o sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep―so shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, and your need like an armed man." (Proverbs 6:6-11, NKJV)

WE ARE IN A WAR!

In case you don't know it, the enemy forces of Hell are raging! Yet how many are aware of it? While the enemy works to destroy Christianity and wipe it off the earth, I dare say that most claiming to be "Christian" are sadly more like self-seeking sluggards than soldiers. Tell me, why are we admonished to ". . . .be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might"? (Ephesians 6:10) Why are we told to "Put on the whole armor of God. . . ."? (Ephesians 6:11) Why are we instructed to ". . . .wage the good warfare">/i>? (1 Timothy 1:18) Why are we encouraged to "Fight the good fight of faith. . . ."? (1 Timothy 6:12) Why are we told to "Endure hardship as good soldiers of Jesus Christ"? (2 Timothy 2:3-4)

Our warfare is not physical but spiritual (2 Corinthians 10:3-6), yet the sluggard is not concerned with either warfare or welfare. He or she wants to take it easy, not bothering to get involved with protecting themselves nor providing what they need. Sleep and slumber is the preferred fare of the sluggard.

THE LAZY MAN

"I went by the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding. And there it was, all overgrown with thorns; Its surface was covered with nettles; Its stone was broken down. . . .A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest; So shall your poverty come like a prowler, and your need like an armed man (literally like a man with sword and shield)." (Proverbs 24:30-34)

"The lazy man says, 'There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion is in the streets! As a door turns on its hinges, so does the lazy man on his bed. The lazy man buries his hand in his bosom. It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth. The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly." (Proverbs 25:13-16)

So, how would you like to have this kind of person on your team, as your partner? With so many lazybones, filling up churches globally, even those claiming to be serious Christians, is it any wonder that we are losing the fight/war for souls?

LION IN THE STREET

The lazy sluggard may even recognize the lion (e.g. Satan), yet they won't confront him or his soldiers. If you haven't guessed it by now the Proverbs regard sluggards with derision. It is not dealing with a case of low energy here, but with the failure to act; the failure to take responsibility for survival. What ever happened to "hearts to God and hands to work."? The verses I have quoted above are examples of the sardonic humor of Proverbs.

We are living in a time when men and women have grown extremely lazy, crazy, and hazy. But not all are of the lazy camp. Thank God for the small band of Christian soldiers who ". . . . contend earnestly for the faith. . . ." (Jude 1:3)

BE 'BS' FREE

It is time my friends to be BS free! Both the Church and State are full of excess waste that needs to be flushed. While the world—via politics—pushes their PC/Woke BS on us, we do not have to receive it because we definitely do not believe it. Yet since the Church has grown lazy, hazy, and crazy, it has become a BS depository. And what's worse, in too many cases it has become a propaganda arm of the radical left. We do not have to be political to engage in the warfare to which we are called. But we do NEED TO BE spiritual warriors fighting the good fight of faith. So get off your lazy behinds and get to the front lines—there is a WAR ON!
